Greenways Farm, Kent

Date: 12th April 2008.

Time: Late afternoon and evening until 3am.

Weather conditions: Cold with showers becoming dry and clear.

Persons present: Nick Jones, Tracey Milliams, Patrick McNamara, Karl, Janet Blair, Malcolm Dyer.

These notes were compiled, on the night, using a digital Dictaphone, (Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS310-M) and digital camera, (Olympus Camedia C-220 ZOOM).

Thanks once again to our hosts, Tracey and Nick for their usual hospitality. This time a banquet of piping hot, homemade soup, served from a tureen the size of Belgium, mountains of chilli con carne on rice, along side a special rice dish all of Tracey’s own recipe, trifle, cold meats, freshly percolated coffee, tea, etc, etc, enough said?!!!

Upon our arrival, at 5pm, Janet and me were given a tour of the farmstead. This is comprised of an extensive range of outbuildings and livestock accommodation, housing a herd of lowing cattle, a flock of Shaun’s, a brace of fine horses, two pretty donkeys and an army of clucking chickens.  Flotillas of ducks and geese plied the waters of a large pond nearby and to complete this menagerie, we were supervised by two huge, sociable dogs, whilst a couple of farm moggies maintained a comfortable observational role.

As I wandered among the typical pre-fabricated buildings, of the specification one would expect to find on any modern farm, I noticed one single structure which is constructed to typical war-time specifications, composed of shaped sheet corrugated asbestos for curved roof and sides, of the type we so often associate with WW2 military and civil construction, such as troop accommodation and even hospital complexes, such as Mount Vernon in Middlesex. These kit-made buildings were an essential component of the war effort and may well have continued to be erected for a few years after the cessation of hostilities during the 1940s years of ‘austerity’. The presence of this building might well have relevance to the findings of Patrick McNamara later in the evening, relating to an RAF connection.

Horse sense: Greenways is a working farm. Friendly faces are welcome.

5.30pm: Patrick McNamara and Karl Fallon arrived and the latter soon started setting up our equipment for the Circle Session, (which are usually held at around 8 to 8.30pm, in semi or complete darkness). I took the opportunity to photograph it all as installed in the upstairs bedroom, (possibly the original medieval ‘High End’ Solar).

The ‘Solar’ is a timber framed chamber, originally constructed 550 years ago, probably to accommodate the yeoman farmer and his lady, where they would have slept in a drapery hung four poster bed, in conditions of comfort and privacy about which most of the impoverished inhabitants of late medieval England could only dream. The light scantling of the framing indicates that it was largely reconstructed in early modern times, but using traditional methods of daub and wattle.

‘Circle’ equipment consists of two high quality digital movie cameras, two digital sound recorders, in the form of Dictaphones, two lights, coloured red and blue and controlled by dimmers, a ‘trumpet’, flowers, a tiny device to play gentle classical background music and a large black sheet which is used to construct a ‘cabinet’ by the simple expedient of draping it across a convenient corner of the room. Participants are invited to seat themselves around a coffee table positioned so as to be able to link hands in reasonable comfort whilst Patrick and Karl conduct ‘circle’ proceedings.

The actual layout of a ‘Circle’ is laid out below, together with details of our working equipment:

We have tried placing the Olympus Dictaphones either to the rear, side, or on the beam above the Circle, but results are still subject to severe limitations of sound quality. This remains – at least for the writer – an absorbing problem. I have tarried with reel to reel – the pioneer of EVP – Constantine Raudive used a Grundig mains portable reel to reel, way back in the late 1960s with fabulous results. His results have yet, to the knowledge of the writer, to be equalled. However, this kind of equipment is no longer obtainable. The next step is, I think, to start using separate mikes.

The following pictures are of our regular venue. This is one of the first floor bedrooms. It is favourably situated at the end of a corridor on one side of the house with three external walls. It is not subject to high ambient noise levels thanks to a rural setting and distance from aircraft flight paths. Electrical interference is also minimised for similar reasons. All of these positive characteristics have enabled us to start a promising series of ‘Circles’ week after week, thus avoiding the fundamental limitations that hinder so many researchers due to their not having a regular suitable location in which to work.

Trumpet Voluntary: Camera-camera in position aimed at the coffee table and ‘Cabinet’ located in the corner of the room behind me. The strange silver pointed object is a’ trumpet’, whilst flowers are considered valuable in aiding results obtained during ‘Circle’.

7
Seeking knowledge in an ancient room: The timbers dividing centuries old daub and wattle walls betray the antiquity of the first floor ‘Solar’. The left hand corner is screened off with a black sheet to form a ‘cabinet’, whilst flowers and a trumpet are placed on the coffee table. The tangle of electrical wiring on the overhead beam connects two dimmer controlled red and blue lights. An ‘orb’ is apparent in front of the ‘Cabinet’.

8
Stage lighting: These create a gentle glow during ‘Circle’ and also prevent many an injured limb, if not pride, if anyone needs to change position or leave the room.

The following was recorded on a digital Dictaphone, (Olympus DW-30), unless stated otherwise.

Main Bedroom at the top of the stairs: (Patrick, Nick, Tracey, Janet and myself) (P) “I have a woman wearing a ‘lace front’- this is the lady you saw (This said to Tracey) – a pretty lace front with a collar like this – it is Victorian it is not earlier than that – very elegant lady – my God you would not want to worry or upset her – (Malcolm) “When did you see her?” (P) “She is here now – she is standing between Nick and Janet – also she has a fur stole – a muff (I think that he meant one of those fur tubes into which Victorian ladies inserted their hands at each end) - this is a big ’over the top job’” (Malcolm) “Have you got a name for her?” (P) “She is French – this is a ‘Madame something or other’ – I don’t know – this is an English farmhouse – I do not know what a French woman is doing here – this is Victorian – this is late nineteenth century.  I just stood in the other room there, (a rear downstairs room behind the c17th Inglenook) - and err, I had no idea – someone just told me that where I saw a maid – a girl dressed as a maid – they just told me that is where they slept – also there is the man who is crippled on one side, balding – blond hair – becoming grey hair actually – something to do with farm estates – I saw a strongbox and money – I see a very small (box?) – he is a ‘Bob Cratchet Job’ – not as posh and he seems to be counting money – and there is a strong box – a strong box, it is green in colour – and it had a latch – I wouldn’t say it was about more than,’ that big’ – but there seems to be a lot in it – as I say it had a latch to it – I get the feeling that that box is still here somewhere – in the house or in the grounds -  its here somewhere – and I see promissory notes – this man was owed money – he was owed money – “much good did it do me” – I think also that he owned another property – and there is something interrelated to the Church, there was Church

9
Early guest at ‘Circle’: An ‘orb’ indicates unseen folk are arriving in the upstairs ‘Solar’, even before the rest of us have finished supper downstairs.

Tithes or something – it was interconnected with it. It was something to do with – you got special permission to do certain things, which had to have it from the Church to use the land in a certain way. Also something to do with – I don’t know - there is no river here – there is something about fisheries – there is something to do with fisheries – because, um, what he is saying here is – also talking about carp – about carp –‘ you know that carp pond’ – a big carp pond – he says that somebody would come round twice or three times a year – and they would take fish out of – carp out of – and they would take them to market and not only that – but also would dry the fish and a certain amount of it would belong to one of the local churches or the Monastery – I don’t know”. (Here, Nick said something but I cannot hear it clearly). (P) “What he is talking about is that there is a big carp pond – apparently you had to have a license or something from the Church – I don’t know – because this is what he is saying – he is giving me – as information – I get the name ‘Miles’ I tell you what – it sounds like ‘Miles Farrinton/ Farringdon/(?) and he owed one of these places as a neighbour – might find something in the parish records – I am not getting a date – I tell you this much – probably 17th or 18th century – it is not later than that I don’t think . (Malcolm) “It might help if you can get the appearance of this man” (P) “Well the point is I see this man and he is wearing this ‘busson’ (spelling?) fringed shirt – rough and ready – somebody  who basically did not give a monkey’s what he looked like – he worked the farm – and he never really went to too many places because of his deformity as well – he was somebody who was a bit shy of his appearance in public – where he was damaged – he had his arm and his leg damaged – and, err, basically there were certain things he could not do on the farm – it annoyed him because he had to hire people to do what he would do himself - but it worked.

At this point Nick – I think – asked whether this man had a heart attack on the stairs, to which Patrick told him that two other people had died on those stairs! “But it wasn’t that man at all and I’ve got a man here who was stabbed and died of his wounds as well – he wasn’t stabbed here – a wound in the stomach area – and it took quite some time – because he thought he was getting better but then it poisoned and went septic and he went - and I got the name Clifford – is Clifford the first or second name? – and I’ve also got the name Evan or Evans – that sounds like a Welshman – and what he is doing down here I don’t know – I’ve got it – Evan or Evans – ” (‘drill, drilling a hole, big drill’, these words sound oddly distorted and could be EVP, which if so is the second time that I have captured this phenomena in the Main Bedroom), (P) “ Borehole, someone, someone, someone used a drill to bore down to something – it couldn’t be water the place is floating! – so I wouldn’t have thought it was water but what would he use a drill for – but what I’ve got is a big drill and it is going down – for some reason it has something to do with mining – and I’m seeing a big drill head – old fashioned big copper head drill that you would turn by hand  - I’m seeing it and I’m not going to alter it because I’ve got it very strongly.

Someone is talking about Kathy and a birthday. Who knows Kathy and a birthday? Kathy and a birthday. I’m not going to alter it – because I’ve got it – Kathy and a birthday and I’m picking up on somebody who is living local. I’ve got another man – Webster – (no one seemed to have any idea who this could be although Nick referred to a concrete drain cover outside with a two letter initial on it, one of which is a ‘W’).

Fireside chat: Janet and Nick are perhaps considering what fascinating facts might be learned as we talk to folk who lived in his ancient home, perhaps centuries ago.  Communication of this type is a rare opportunity to contact people who may not have spoken to a living soul for centuries. It is an opportunity for them as well as for us. It is an exploration of the possible in a world which considers it impossible.

(Malcolm) “I would like to know more about that servant girl.” (P) “As I said, I am asking them to come through – there were a lot of people who were servants in this house – there is not just one, there were lots of them – but this particular girl I would say was from the sixteenth century – late sixteenth, early seventeenth – very short, very hard life, very, very hard work, (Malcolm) “ I wonder what her name was”, (P) “I’ve got Becky, Becky, Becky, Rebecca, Rebecca, yes – its not Becky it’s Betty, because I said ‘is it Rebecca? She no it’s Betty. She’s a petite girl, I would say about sixteen or seventeen, she’s slightly flat chested, ah, her hair is cut very awkwardly – and pulled into some sort of a cloth at the back, it is cut very badly at the front – she’s round shouldered – emaciated, not very well fed and she’s got a boil or spot on her face just here, (he indicated the right side?), and she’s wearing – the only way I can describe it as clogs – like clogs – they look like clogs – late sixteenth, early seventeenth century – she’s very – she’s always busy and she’s very timid, very timid, I think that she would have been belted and pushed away and pushed to one side.” (Malcolm) “What is she wearing? (P) “ – The only way I can describe it - it looks like a smock – like a one piece shift – it is quite offensive and it’s stained, its grey, grey, grey, but also she is wearing – a cloth with a hole in it – where you put over your head – it is just like a sheet with a hole in the top – but it is of a different colour – it goes over the top – they would only wear that because it presents a cleaner image.” (Malcolm) “She lived in?” (P) “Oh, yes”. (Malcolm) “Who was her master?”(P) “ I am trying to ask her and I am not getting it”. I am getting someone called ‘Moll’ there’s ‘Moll’ and ‘Dot’, ‘Moll’ and ‘Dot.’ They are both women –  ‘Moll’ and ‘Dot’ – ‘Moll’ I think would have done a lot of the cooking – umm – she would have done a lot of the cooking – no, I’m not going to change the name it’s ‘Moll’- ‘Moll’ – she’s going ‘Moll’- she’s ‘Moll’, I’m ‘Dot’ and once again ‘Moll’ I wouldn’t want to get in her way she is a woman who could throw bricks. ‘Moll’ did a lot of the cooking but there was a man who looked after the livestock and poultry and things like that – whilst she did most of the cooking he was the boss in the kitchen area – this is not like ‘housekeeper’ he would have been the boss over everything. We are not talking massive amounts of staff here, we are talking about two or three but they changed – they constantly changed.”

I can find no necessary connection between Betty and Moll and Dot. The latter two simply cut in during the contact with timid Betty. You have to be constantly aware of the sheer number of persons trying to join any conversation. This can result in much confusion and broken narrative.

“The young master Gregory he got killed by a horse – he died by a horse – he got killed by a horse – got killed by a horse - Master shot horse – it is buried out there – Master shot the horse, shot the horse” (Malcolm) “Did you like Master?” (P) “ He were alright – he were alright.” (Malcolm) “What was his name?” (P) “Gregory”(Malcolm) “What was Mistress like?” (P)”I don’t know why someone is showing me ribbons, ribbons.” “Short sharp life – she died she was only eighteen, nineteen”. (Malcolm) “Who was the king at that time?” (P) “She wouldn’t know – she wasn’t interested – she wouldn’t know – but I’ve also got somebody else here who is talking about James 11(This was a short reign lasting just a few years before the ‘Glorious Revolution’ of 1688 effectively ended the Stuart Dynasty, Ann dying childless. It was also three generations after the turn of the seventeenth century, which is the era given by Patrick for the short harsh life of poor little Betty the servant girl and yet this description is clearly hers. It is very likely that the respondent speaking of the Restoration Era of the second James, is entirely separate from Betty and simply broke into the contact), “this was also the time when I have got this man who died of a wound who was stabbed somewhere else and he died here.” “I think that he was robbed or something like that – I have not got anything ‘honourable’ about this person.” (Malcolm) “When did he die?” (P) “At about this time” (Malcolm) “At about the time of the Monmouth Rebellion?” (P) “Yes” – ‘Kirsten’, Kirsten’ somebody called ‘Kirsten’ he was the one that went down the stairs – ‘Kirsten’- its funny I’ve got this man whose talking “he were the man that went down the stairs” he’s saying – Kirsten, Kirsten.” (Malcolm) “You’ve got a man talking to you now?” (P) “This man again – I’m not getting it”. (Conversations then took place between everyone and I cannot decipher much more, but within a couple of minutes we adjourned downstairs to the kitchen for supper).

Farmyard at around 7pm: (P) “ RAF - he’s a sergeant – he walks across – he swore a lot (Malcolm) “How do you know he’s a sergeant?” (P) “ I can see the stripes on his arm.” (Malcolm) “You got an RAF man just now?” (P) “Yes – he is wearing an RAF Uniform – Second World War – he’s a Sergeant (?) – Stripes there – also had something to do with like an instructor - trainer.” (Malcolm) “ You know you found the evidence of an office inside there, (in the house)?” (P) “I’m not getting any connection with that at all – completely separate from that gentleman.”

11
Ancient Entrance: Would poor little Betty have awaited her Master’s return when this doorway was more than a blanked off panel? The jambs and two-centred arch are typical of late medieval design. Almost certainly this is the original ‘front door’, through which the first proud owners entered into their new home half a millennium ago.

Later on in the tour of the farm outbuildings, Patrick said that he could ‘smell petrol’ although there was no petrol on the premises. At this point I told him of my having found prefabricated asbestos shed which almost certainly dates from W.W.2. Patrick confirmed that he had got a ‘connection’ with the RAF “they are the ones I am getting here – they are nothing to do with the gentleman in the house – but I am getting it quite strongly – he would have been more like an officer – or he would have been associated with it”.

(P) “ I am getting motorbikes – they are early motorbikes – pre war – that’s what I am getting – I’m getting an army truck or lorry – yes, I’m getting that quite distinctly – you know the ones with the big fenders – I’m getting that quite distinctly here, (we were by now in one of the main outbuildings – these do not date from the war era but the site could have been in use for parking vehicles, etc) – yes, an army truck – a covered army truck – one of the covered jobbies – used for troop transport.”

(By now the time was around 7.30pm. The lowing of the cattle and general commotion from the livestock – sheep, ducks, hens and cattle - affected recording).

(P) “For some reason I have got someone talking about RAF Lindon – where that is I don’t know – but I’ve got RAF Lindon.” (Here, it is worth noting that RAF activity in this region of the South East was intense. Many airstrips were created almost overnight during the Second World War and some remain in use for commercial and leisure uses). (P) “RAF Lindon or Liddon” there were RAF men here – I saw the truck – there would have been at least six to twelve men here for some reason. There must have been some reason for them to be here. I’ve got this man now – Lindon or Liddon – this RAF man – very sort of – stripe on his arm – I think he’s about 45 – he’s got a moustache – I would say that when he was here – put it this way – there must be a reason why he is here – it was a very prominent part of his life – why he was here – I think it was important to him otherwise he would not be here – I tell you something else – I’ve seen RAF pilots here wearing full kit – you know the ‘Betty Davis – something to do with floating or water – something to do with floating in water – that’s all I’ve got.”

Circle in first floor ‘Solar’: This is a transcript made from a standard office Dictaphone with internal mike that was balanced on a beam near the Circle. This is my first attempt at making a serious record of what takes place and the technical shortfalls are obvious. We will experiment with equipment and it’s positioning in order to improve results. However, what I have managed to record so far is very encouraging.

Length of recording: One hour and fifty five minutes.

Persons Present: Tracey Milliams, Nick Jones, Janet Blair, Karl Fallon, Patrick McNamara, Malcolm Dyer.

Commencement Time: Approximately 8.30pm. I will note the time elapsed to give a better idea of how the session developed.

Patrick McNamara starts these Circles with the Lords Prayer that he follows with a sort of, ‘prayer’ that commences with the words, ‘O divine spirit…………’ I have no idea from which liturgy this originates and he spoke too rapidly for me to be able to transcribe it.

We are now in semi-darkness, the blue and red lights being turned down. Karl is instructed to select suitable – in this case classical – music on a tiny music device that then plays softly. We then join hands on the instruction of PM whilst K turns of the red light. (K) “We must keep connected – it is important for Patrick”

0.08: (PM) “ You will notice almost immediately that the temperature is dropping – the whole room is sloping – the energy is drawn up now.”

0.09: We are in complete darkness now – I cannot even see the end of my nose. Faint rustlings are audible from the farmyard beyond……………

0.11: (PM) “My left hand has just been touched by a warm finger – a warm hand touched me – the energy is coming up from the floor – you’ll feel drafts from under the table.”

12.04: We sit in silence – just the odd sniff and snuffle heard.

14.06: (PM) “There is a smell and taste like dust.”

14.11: (PM) “I am aware of two women – people in the cabinet behind me. There are two women behind me – I can feel energy coming off of my back and also you might feel a slight movement on your heads – back of your head and you may also feel like cobwebs on your face – especially on your cheeks.”

16.05: (PM) “There is ectoplasm coming off of my left hand.”

17.37: (PM) “God bless you friends – there’s a big cloud of energy on the table in front of me.”

18.08: Nothing more heard so far. Am trying to get comfy.

18.30: (PM) “I am going into a meditation for a few minutes.”

19.08: (K) “Nick or Tracey have you been thinking about reindeer?” (Tracey and Nick) “Yes, we are going to buy some.” Much giggling followed what with comments about Father Christmas, etc. (Here, it must be remembered that Nick and Tracey, as proprietors of Greenways Farm, are smallholders and what with, two horses, donkeys, two dogs, two cats, a swarm of hens, a gaggle of geese, a drift of ducks, etc, etc, it is not so unimaginable if Rudolf made a red nosed appearance………………..)

20.05: (K) “……………peninsular with coast on three sides”. (This seemed to relate to a recent purchase of a radio set by Nick – which K did not have any knowledge of).

21.31: (PM) “I got Canada for some reason” Nick confirmed that there had been a ‘Canadian Connection’ recently. He is a radio ham and had just purchased some sort of exotic machine from Canada.

23.08: (K) “What’s the story with the barn owl?” (Nick) “ We were renovating and the front of the house came off……….” (This is not an indication that Nick is another ‘Frank Spencer’ – the 15th and 16th century timber framed front elevation had to be carefully dismantled and reconstructed and has been done so to a very high standard thanks to the supervision of Nick)…….and there was a barn owl nesting in a hole which is now filled in.”(K) “There is a barn owl sitting up there.” Here both Tracey and Nick stated that they would like to breed barn owls – what with the rest of the menagerie, ducks and donkeys, this would be an easy addition.

24.37: ((PM) “There are two gentlemen this side.”

26.00: Only yawns and fidgeting heard. (K) “They are taking energy from us.”

26.19: Everyone is very relaxed and even chat about car problems. PM instructs K to put the orange light on a low glow.

28.43: (PM) “What you have actually got is ectoplasm on your faces – like cobwebs. Can you see this cloud of energy that’s over here behind me?” (Janet) “Its slightly illuminescent. – the size of a small child”. (PM) “That’s it.” (PM) “Welcome friend. I’ve somebody here coming in on your right – on my left – yes – it’s quite strong – its pulling the energy from me – its very strong……….”
29.50: (K) “I’ve got a briefcase – it’s for you Malcolm – Ministry of Defence or something – Its confidential.” (The only thing I can think of is the Inland Revenue – I am wrangling with them right now and they love a briefcase or two).

(PM) “There’s somebody here – you can see the luminosity starting to build – if you look down on the floor Nick next to me on my left – you’ll see movement – little lights.” (Nick) “I can see a slightly lighter patch.” (PM) “Yes, that’s good.”

(K) “I see the lady in the Victorian dress – beautiful white.” (Tracey) “Is it the lady I saw?” (K) “I think it is – I’ve just seen her hat now – it’s tilted – she has long hair – it’s tied.”

31.40: (K to T) “Did you get a name?” (Tracey) “No”.

32.22: We are still sitting in virtual darkness.

33.50: (K) “I see a man with a white ruff – I think its Thomas.” (This is followed by some conversation between Tracey and Karl about entities which ‘fight of evil’ (?) The writer is baffled – I have no idea what it was about.

40.57: (Tracey) “I can see a light on the floor between it and Patrick.”

42.40: The light is set at a dim glow. I could just make out the room and those present.

44.00: (PM) “The energy is building nicely. I feel that I am immersed in water……………..Karl change the music. Bless you, come forward – I can feel you, I can see the cloud – I can feel the energy – come forward. Nick, if you extend your right hand towards me very slightly. Tell them what happened to your fingers – feel your fingers.” (Nick) “Definitely colder.” (Tracey) “My face is colder.”

48.36: (PM) “Let me tell you what I can sense – can you see the formations?” (Nick) “Yes”. (PM) “You’ll notice now how the room has got a bit lighter – there is intense spirit energy – some of them are moving around here to my left – I will not put my hand out – I’ve been told not to – to preserve the energy.”

49.38: (PM) “My mother is here Karl, for some reason – I dunno why – she is putting a plant on the table – it looks like a rubber plant – God knows why.”

50.36: Karl and Tracey could, ‘see a lot of activity on PM’s left and near the Cabinet.’

51.03: (PM) “Can you see any of the formations in front of the Cabinet?” (K) “I can see lines of light, swirling lines.”

51.30: (PM) “There is something building on the chair.”

51.46: (Tracey) “The trumpet disappeared” (She was sitting just four feet in front of it).

53.20: A monastic chant is playing softly on the music device. All is quiet.
53.44: (PM) “Can you see the mist in front of me? It is really becoming intense.” (Tracey and Nick) “Yes”. (PM) “You also have dryness in your throats.”

54.15: (PM) “A shadow moved across the room. Its floating – Its floating here look – going in the other direction – left towards the door – look watch – towards the door – look – can you see the lights floating – the formation – you see it? – it about – umm – four feet up – look, look, the light four feet up – look – it coming down here – give me your hand – feel that – can you feel that – tell me what you feel.” (Nick) “Like a slight warmth.” (PM) “Like a warm texture”.

55.44: (PM) “Over here – there’s an energy field – there’s an energy field in front of the curtain – tremendous draft moving the Cabinet curtain.” (K) “I saw a red light there.” (PM) “Yes, it’s getting stronger – there’s a gap now – see something on the floor.” (K) “Yes”. (PM) “Bless you friend – bless you – there’s nothing evil – bless you friend…………………..”

57.15: Patrick wanted Karl to turn down the already dim light.

57.45: (PM) “You must be able to use this energy – oh! He pushed me down.” (K) “Sit ye down he said”.

58.40: (PM) “Just look at the the curtain – see lights.” (At this point one of the digital cameras finished).

1.00.00: (Janet) “I see twinkles, (She means ‘Orbs’). Tracey and Janet then both said that they could see. ‘Twinkles’.

01.01.58: The monastic music continues………………………

01.05.45: (Nick) “Are you Thomas?” Francis Too? (Nick and Tracey are ‘aware’ of them?) (Nick) “Someone called Francis?……………….(poor audio)………….Francis is a Jesuit Priest.”

01.07: I asked for Francis but nothing heard.

01.09: A rapping sound is heard. (Tracey) “Thomas is that you?”

01.12: (Tracey) “I’ve seen a big orb”.

01.23: (PM) “ John Butress is here – I’ve got Thomas and Francis. He is saying, “It was indeed I – he is talking about Tracey. She is not talking to herself – she is talking to me – he has shown himself by moving something – the camera – and is saying something about taps. Has he turned a water tap on? I saw a water tap.”

Karl put the blue light on and PM asked him whether he had an old cloth to put over it to diffuse the glare. This he explained is due to ‘low energy levels’.

(PM)”Everybody break for a second”(which we did having been holding hands for over an hour and much stretching of cramped limbs followed).

(Tracey) “If Thomas wants me to speak to him he has got to help me.” (PM) “Madam – he is saying – that Madam, I will convey to you exactly what you want to know but sometimes what you ask – err – is not correct.” (Tracey) “OK”.

01.27: At last the lights are set up to general satisfaction.

01.28: (PM) “Look at my face.”

Janet sees a ‘Shakespeare-like countenance as did Tracey and possibly Nick too witnessed this ‘transfiguration’ of Thomas.

01.33: (Karl) “Thomas, what is your day like? Good Evening Thomas. Could you describe yourself?” Thomas seems to reply through PM but the recording is too indistinct to transcribe but there seemed to be talk of a ‘hidden strongbox.’

(Karl) “Thomas, I think you’d prefer to speak to Tracey.”

(PM) “There are three places…………I have hidden……….part money…….papers, precious to Mother Church. I say to ye the secret………….what is past is past….I have my faith and my faith is mine………………..”

Karl pursues the conversation but the recording is very poor.

01.43: (PM to Nick?) “Its not well. I mean, not well. You’ve don the right thing – need to have more energy – more people – more darkness. Light affects – very much energy dissipated. (PM) “I didn’t realize how much this guy has been working – we try to talk to you all the time but you don’t hear us.”

(Karl) “Stan Walsh – is he around?”.

(PM to K) “You are a total bastard!!!” (K) “I know that!” How are you Michael?” (PM) “I’m dead!” (K) “I know”………….I’ve been allowed to come through I know that she’s clumsy in her attitude to people – everything she touches turns to disaster……….protection team…….incredibly stupid woman……….Now I’m gone…….there even worse………….two daughters……….better off……………”

01.51: (PM) “For four years I have tried to get my message across – the whole world is bloody stupid. To put a message across to you stupid people – you are all morons. I’ll be back.” (This cheerful benediction was delivered by a voice with an ‘Eastern European accent and Karl later explained that this was a ‘rogue spirit’).

(PM) “I do understand you and I want you to know – I feel much better now. Thomas is not bad – he just doesn’t understand anything………….”

01.54: (PM) “My name is Arthur – I have been what you would term a grand or great.” (Karl seemed to understand and said. “Welcome, do you have a message?” There was a reply but too faint to read.

01.57: Patrick McNamara sounded exhausted and emotional. He said, “I’ve got a Zulu here – standing beside me – something came here that shouldn’t be here.”
02.00.48: (PM) “I’ve got John.”

02.01.23: Lights on and finish. Two long hours sat in a circle linked together. We rapidly descended to the welcoming warmth of the Inglenook downstairs. With refreshments and stretched limbs, we discussed the evening whilst the firelight danced and created fleeting shadows on the venerable beamed ceiling overhead. Soon time for the long drive home and sleep at last!
